Assignment #5

Another strategy FLaRE recommends for building fluency is Reader's Theater. Go to the link below and find a script that you can incorporate into your instruction. Post the title of the script you have selected and the reasons for chosing that particular one. Be sure to bring a copy of the script to our next class meeting - Tuesday, February 19th - as part of your portfolio requiremments.

My class(es) would be best suited to perform "The War Prayer" by Mark Twain. Its vocabulary ranges from high-end to moderate, and its author is one with which most students are familiar. The lesson behind it is also serves as a prime example of Twain's social wit and pith.

Instead of using a script from the website, I selected a readers theater script from a book that I have. It is called "Twice as Nice". The reason that I chose this one is because it is about a city and country mouse and I thought that it would be perfect to use while teaching about communities.

The Readers Theater I chose was Monkey Lives! A Superhero Tale of China, I chose this because it is easy to read and I think my students could read and understand it without getting discouraged.

"Savitri: A Tale of Ancient India" would fit nicely in my World History class as an example of Indian mythology. The story is easy to follow with appropriate vocabulary for 10th grade students. This would make a nice introductory activity to a unit on the civilization of anicent India.
